50 FREE kid-friendly songs starts today!

Disney music is offering one free song a day for the next 50 days to Facebook fans.

If you aren't already a fan of Disney Music, click on the "like" button here.

I'm going to put all 50 into on playlist on my iPod to make a fun collection of music that everyone can enjoy in the car.

The first song: Squirrels In My Pants (S.I.M.P) from Phineas and Ferb. How fun!!

FREE Earth Day music

Jack Johnson is offering a free, never-before-released single in honor of Earth Day today.

The song, Breakdown featuring Kawika Kahiapo and recorded at the Kokua Festival in Hawaii in 2008, is available to Facebook members here. It instructs you to post an Earth Day resolution, but in all honesty, I went straight to the download, and it worked.

I do love getting free music. and Jack Johnson is a favorite!!

FREE music sampler from iTunes -- Thanks again FB!

Facebook members can again get free music from iTunes by becoming fans here.

About once a month iTunes offers a free sampler album of tunes. The current offering, indie Spotlight, is available until June 15. And if you haven't downloaded it already, you can still get the Songs from the House of Soul through april 30.

Fans can also download a free single song here every week. This week's offering: Outfit by Archie Bronson.

When I find free music, I tend to download it. It's a great way to build up your library, and a fun way to try out some new artists and styles. And what's there to lose? If you don't like anything you download, it doesn't take much to delete it.

I've said before how much I love downloading free songs. It's a great way to check out some new music and artists before paying for an entire album.

Noisetrade is a great way to try out new songs from new artists, who upload their own singles for free downloads. To get the music for free, Noisetrade asks you to pass the word along to five friends. Or you have the option of paying "any amount" to get MP3s.

I love getting free music, especially samplers like this. It's a great way to try out new styles and artists before buying an entire album. And if you don't like something you downloaded for free, there's nothing lost in deleting it later.

FREE music Sunday

Here's a fun one.

The folks over at Television Tunes (available here) have free downloads for thousands of the theme songs from television shows and movies.

The list includes everything from tunes that were popular of their own right -- songs like the theme from Hill Street Blues and others -- to fun jingles and well known songs from kids programs.

For example, go to their search function and type in "Sesame Street" and you'll find more than 70 educational songs from the popular series. Make a playlist and you've got hours of fun music for the little ones. Got older kids? How about Hannah Montana and iCarly.

I personally am going to start with the tunes from Glee.

People Magazine and iTunes are offering a playlist of music from their favorite country artists for free. Go here to download yours.

The 11-song playlist has about 40 minutes of tracks from a variety of country artists, including James Otto's "Groovy Little Summer Song," Allison Moorer's "The Broken Girl" and Dolly Parton's "Jolene (live)."

You all know how I feel about free music -- it's a great, no risk way to try out some new tunes. You never know what you'll like, and you just might find something that surprises you, or leads you to more similar music that you also enjoy. Try it out and don't like it?? All it takes is a click of the delete button and it's gone.

Cheap Cheap fan Teresa told me about this one. And fans should know my feelings about free music -- I think it's a great way to try some new stuff and if I don't like it, it's no biggie since you can just hit the delete button.

Every Monday Urban Outfitters offers five free downloadable songs here.

They also periodically offer free sampler albums, and currently there are two available for free download on their web site here.

I will admit, I haven't had a chance to listen to this selection. But I've enjoyed many of the free songs iTunes has offered in the last few weeks. And what's the worst that could happen? If you don't like it, it's easy enough to delete it.
