FREE pass!!

I don't know about you, but with seven kids, I'm always looking for new and different things to do with them. And, with seven kids, cost is a consideration.

As a mom, I love it when I can get them away from the screens in their lives (computer, TV, wii, you name it) and get them outdoors. Which is why I love this freebie: National Park Week.

April 17th through the 25th all of the country's 392 parks are offering free admission. For the parks that charge admission, that can save you $20 to $25 per vehicle (or $10 to $12 per individual).

In addition, Saturday April 24 is National Junior Ranger Day. Get more information on that here.

And mark your calendar. The parks will be offering two more fee-free days this year: Public Lands Day on Sept. 25 and Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

You can find out more about the week, and locate parks close to you, here.

Another Nabisco coupon coming next week

Last month the folks at Nabisco said they would be offering coupons to Facebook members the first Monday of each month. So mark your calendar for Monday, April 4. And become a Facebook fan of Nabisco here.

Tropicana starting Deal of the Day TOMORROW!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) the folks at Tropicana are saying they will begin offering a special "Deal of the Day" to Facebook fans starting tomorrow. So go here to become a fan, and check back on their page tomorrow to find out what it's all about.

FREE potatoes (and a favorite recipe for them)

Reminder: there are still five more days to get your free potatoes. You can print out the coupon from my original post here.

I stock up on potatoes when I find a good price. After all, if you store them in a cool, dry place, they will keep for months.

Not sure what to do with them?? Last night I made these mashed potatoes, and I think they were the best mashed potatoes I've ever made (this recipe serves 10, but you could easily cut it in half):

5 lbs. russet or baking potatoes, peeled and quartered
6 cups water
3 cubes Knorr extra large vegetable or chicken bullion cubes
3 bay leaves
1 stick (+) butter, cut into pieces
milk (or reserved cooking water)
salt, to taste

Combine peeled and quartered potatoes, water, bullion and bay leaves in a slow cooker. Set on high for one hour, then reduce heat to low and continue cooking until potatoes are fork tender, about 4 hours total. Remove potatoes from cooking water (discard bay leaves) and place in a bowl with butter and about 1/4 cup milk (or reserve cooking liquid). Mash either by hand or with a mixer until desired consistency, adding more milk for looser potatoes. Add salt to taste.
* Note: if you can't find the Knorr bullion, substitute any brand of bullion, following package directions to make 6 cups of broth. Or eliminate the bullion and water and substitute broth, either store bought or home made.
** Note: The broth adds a layer of flavor to otherwise simple potatoes. Want to add another layer of flavor? Add six to 10 garlic cloves, peeled and cut in half (you can either remove the garlic before mashing, or go ahead and mash with potatoes). Or I want to try adding a quartered onion to the cooking water (remove before mashing).

Two fast food FREEBIES!

First, head over to Arby's with the coupon here. Buy a soda, and get a free regular roast beef sandwich (expires April 10). Find your closest Arby's here.

Then hit Quiznos for a free sub, chopped salad or toasty torpedo (when you buy one of equal or lesser value and a regular drink) with this coupon here. Find your closest Quiznos here.

$90 in Hasbro coupons

Get $90 in Hasbro coupons here.

These are great deals, especially if you have birthday parties coming up.

$11.50 in Arm and Hammer coupons

Go here for your coupons offered by the Arm and Hammer folks on their web page.

I'm bummed that I never see coupons for their Super Washing Soda. That's one of the three ingredients I use in the powdered laundry soap the kids and I make. It ends up costing me about $4 for enough to do about 100 loads -- a big savings over the $10 or more I was spending on bottles of the stuff I used to buy at the grocery store. And with nine people in the family, well, we do a lot of laundry!

Here's my recipe:

3 cups finely shredded bar soap (one bar of Ivory = 1 cup)
3 cups 12-Team Borax
3 cups Super Washing Soda

Put in a large lidded container. Shake.
Use 2 T per large load.

Week in review

Usually I like to get this out on Sunday, but the kids and I were out of town, so I'm catching up this morning.

It was another good week, with an estimated $300in savings for the week ($2,931 since I started this last month). We have more than 525 fans on Facebook, and are aiming for 1,000 (tell your friends they can join us here).

In case you missed anything, this week's deals were:

FREE pet vet care!

Angel Dog (not his real name) is 14 -- old in dog years -- which means trips to the vet are not unusual.

And they aren't cheap.

So a free one sure could come in handy.

Go here to print out a coupon for a free new pet exam with a vet at Banfield (regular price, about $45). The coupon covers a regular exam, any tests would be extra.

Banfield is the vet hospital associated with and located in PetSmart stores all over the country. So there's a good chance there is one near you. To find one, check out the PetSmart store locator here.

FREE personalized photo wall calendar

I love this offer from Vistaprint. Go here to get one Free personalized photo wall calendar (regular price about $16).

I love these as gifts for several reasons:
1. You can upload up to 13 photos (one for the cover, and one for each month).
2. You can start with any month. Making one for a Mother's Day gift? Start with May or June. Father's Day? June or July. A special birthday? You get the picture.
3. You can add text on calendar days -- no more forgetting birthdays, anniversaries, special events, etc.

Now, you will have to pay shipping, which starts at about $5 for what they say can take up to 21 days (so plan ahead, although I have received my orders shipped this way in as little as a week).

And you can only order one calendar for the FREE deal. However, you can place more than one order and pay the additional shipping to get more FREE calendars.

You can also add other FREE personalized items to your order, which will reduce your per item shipping costs. Some ideas:

FREE ceramic mug here (choose from 49 designs, regular price $10).
FREE tote bag here (choose from 36 designs, regular price $13)
FREE ball cap here (choose from 36 designs, regular price $15)
FREE photo flip book here (regular price $10)

But you might want to heed their warning: Yesterday I was making another one of their free products, and my internet blipped, so I set it aside to finish today. When I signed back on this morning, they suddenly wanted to charge me $8 for an item that had been free the night before.

Coffee discount for Facebook Fans

The folks at Cherokee Natural Organic Coffee want you and 499 of your friends to be their fans.

Check out their Facebook page here, where Cherokee hopes to log 500 fans by Easter Sunday (April 4). Become a fan and you'll get a special coupon code for $2 off a pound of coffee.

You can also find them on Twitter here.

Speaking of Twitter, you can also follow Cheap Cheap on Twitter. Follow me under the user name CheapCheap66 here!

FREE music sampler from iTunes -- Thanks again FB!

Facebook members can again get free music from iTunes by becoming fans here.

About once a month iTunes offers a free sampler album of tunes. The current offering, indie Spotlight, is available until June 15. And if you haven't downloaded it already, you can still get the Songs from the House of Soul through april 30.

Fans can also download a free single song here every week. This week's offering: Outfit by Archie Bronson.

When I find free music, I tend to download it. It's a great way to build up your library, and a fun way to try out some new artists and styles. And what's there to lose? If you don't like anything you download, it doesn't take much to delete it.

FREE box of cereal from Food Lion!!

Here's one for regular Food Lion customers who have MVP cards.

Text the word CEREAL to ShopText (467467) and follow the instructions that come back (you will need to provide your MVP card number) and Food Lion will load a coupon for a free box of Food Lion Simple Living cereal to your card. Offer expires May 25th.

Daily Deal -- $25 Restaurant gift certificates for $2!

Restaurant.com is once again offering their restaurant gift certificates (a good deal at regular price at $10 for a $25 gift certificate) for 80 percent off.

Enter the discount code COOK and you can pick up a $25 gift certificate to restaurants in your area for just $2.

Now, there are some conditions. Typically you must spend $35 on food (alcohol does not count) to be able to use the gift certificate, there must be two people dining together and each party can only use one coupon. So be sure to read the fine print to make sure it works for you. But in my book, saving $23 on a dinner out works for me!

I've had great luck with these. I've given them as gifts, and usually pick up ones for my favorite local places when they are this cheap and just keep it in my wallet until I get a chance to use it.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is offering two FREE personalized photo luggage tags through its web site here. The process is simple: upload your photo, enter your information and hit send. The two matching tags should arrive in about three weeks.

Not planning a trip that requires luggage? Use the tags to identify your diaper bag, tote bag or gym duffle. Or make them for your kids' band instrument or guitar case. Be creative. Not a fan of printing names on tags that strangers can see? Skip the name and address and just enter an email and/or phone number. There are lots of creative ways to use this one!

$7.50 in Campbell's coupons

The folks at Campbells have some great high value coupons worth up to $7.50 available on their website here. Coupons include $1 off two Campbells for cooking soups. I regularly find these on sale for $1 a can, which brings the total to 50 cents a can.

Here's a recipe for Tater Tot Casserole that uses the Cream of Mushroom condensed soup that my whole family loves:

1 pound ground beef, browned
16 oz. sour cream
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 can French cut green beans, drained
1 bag tater tots
Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix together beef, sour cream, soup, cheese and beans. Spray a baking pan with cooking spray. Spread frozen tater tots in the bottom of the pan. Top with beef mixture. Bake until bubbly and cooked through, about an hour.

Go here and click on "select a country to begin" to request your copy. Supplies are limited, and it will take three to four months for your DVD to arrive. But if you have kids who love trains, I'm guessing this one could be worth the wait.

$38 in coupons for cold, vitamins, etc.

I don't know about your family, but we're dead in the middle of spring cold season here. I'm not sure who came down with it first -- my youngest or me. But now my fiance has it too.

So these coupons are already coming in handy for the aches and pains that come along with the sneezing and watery eyes.

Go here to the Wyeth web site for more than 20 coupons worth up to $38 total.

Two great deals, $20+ in coupons, from Kmart

Here's one to bookmark and keep handy for the next few months: a coupon for $10 off your next $20 purchase at Kmart. Or better yet, download the pdf onto your machine so you can continue to print it out if it disappears.

While it appears you can print this one as many times as you want, however you can only use one coupon per transaction. Of course, it's not below me to go through the line several times to make several transactions. The coupon is good until May 22.

Now, there are some restrictions. You can't use it on "Buy one, get one" events; non-merchandise; concessions; federal or state regulated items; alcohol; tobacco; fuel; items behind the pharmacy counter; prescriptions; prior purchases; partial-paid special order items; Lands' End; Two Hearts Maternity; Sears merchandise rung on Sears registers within Kmart and some other legal mumbo jumbo. That said, I think there is plenty of the store that qualifies.

If you're a regular Kmart shopper, you may also want to consider singing up for Kmart's email savings club here, which promises to send you email deals several times a week, starting with two coupons for $5 off a $50 purchase.

Daily Discount -- Barnes & Noble

I thought I'd start a new feature here: a daily discount code for online purchases.

If there is a specific retailer you are interested in, let me know and I'll see what I can find. Otherwise I'll try to find a variety of useful online deals.

Here's today's discount: buy one paperback at Barnes & Nobel, get one for half price. Use the discount code V9L9E3J at checkout.

Another VistaPrint FREEBIE -- a 3x1.6' banner

Here's another fun one from VistaPrint -- a free 3-foot-by-1.6-foot banner.

Make one to direct guests to a party, embarrass a friend or family member on their birthday, or congratulate a kid for good grades or a graduation.

As always with VistaPrint, you can get more than one for free (regular price $14), but you will have to place more than one order. And you still will be on the hook for shipping, which starts at about $4.

More FREEBIES from VistaPrint

The folks at VistaPrint have a few new freebie deals (all you pay is shipping, which starts at about $4).

First on the list are photo calendars. True, we are almost three months into the year. But that means there are still nine months left.

Choose from a standard wall calendar (regular price $16), desk calendar (regular price $6), poster calendars (regular price $7), wallet calendars (regular price $20) or 10 calendar magnets (regular price $13).

Can't decide? Order one of each. Want more than one? To get seconds or more free, you have to place separate orders.

These would make great presents for birthday's, Easter, Mother's Day or just for yourself.

Go here to start making your own personalized calendars.

Mmmmmake your own peanut clusters -- $2.25 in coupons and a recipe

Just an hour or so ago, my fiance and I were enjoying some chocolate peanut clusters he brought home from Food Lion, and I was thinking aloud that this was a candy I could make at home, and they would be even better

Then I sat down at my computer and discovered that the folks over at the Mr. Peanut fan page on Facebook (here) are offering a $1.50 coupon to their fans (expires 4/18/10).

I also found a coupon for 75 cents off one package of Nestle Toll House morsels here.

Here's how I plan to make them:
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups salted Spanish peanuts
Line a baking pan with parchment or foil sprayed with baking spray. Melt chips in the top of a double boiler on the stove. When smooth, add peanuts and stir to combine. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture on the prepared baking pan and set aside in a cool place (or the refrigerator) to harden. Store in the refrigerator.

$8 in dairy coupons

I saw this great one over on The Closeout Kid's blog here (thanks!) and I had to pass it along.

The folks at the Organic Valley coop are offering up to $8 in coupons for dairy products on their web site here. Get $1 off everything from milk and eggs to cheese and butter.

Not sure where to buy Organic Valley products? Check out their store locator here.

Celebrate St. Pat's Italian style for FREE

Sorry I'm a bit late at getting this one out, but there is still time to make your way over to Fazoli's to get your free green Italian Lemon Ice today (no purchase necessary). Go here to print out your coupon.

You can find the Fazoli's closest to you here.

More FREE business cards -- be creative!!

I have to thank fan Laura P.L. for this tip.

The folks at moo.com are offering 50 free personalized photo business cards. All you pay is $6 in shipping (granted, that is more than you pay to have the free cards shipped from Vista Print, which I told you about last week. But it appears you have more options to use your own photos on the cards with this deal).

To get yours, go here.

Don't have a business to publicize? Be creative. Make "mommy cards" to leave when you take your children to play at other's houses. Include your name, cell phone number, and the numbers of other emergency contacts. Use a photo of your kids or their artwork, include a message from the kids and make refrigerator magnets out of them for gifts for teachers and grandparents (you can buy the sticky sided magnets at craft supply stores). What else could you do with these?

FREE potatoes are back!! And $1.50 off Oscar Meyer bacon!

The folks over at Klondike potatoes -- which sells the Green Giant name -- are offering another free potato deal. Only this time, instead of buying two, you only have to buy one 5-pound bag of their Rose or Russet potatoes to get one free!

You do have to provide your email address and register for their site to get the coupon. Go here to do that.

That should make fan Kim P-M happy. Last time around she was intimidated by three bags of potatoes.

Not sure what to do with them?? Here is my family's favorites:

Roasted red potatoes (you can do this with any waxy potato)
4-6 potatoes, washed and cut into bite size chunks
2 T extra virgin olive oil or melted butter
1/2 onion, diced
kosher salt
Seasonings of choice (see below)
Preheat oven to 375. Toss potatoes, onions, oil or butter and seasonings together in a roasting pan. Roast until cooked through and golden, about 45 minutes, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle with salt when done.
* Seasonings: Be creative, or choose from this list:
1 package french onion soup mix
1 T oregano
1 T crushed rosemary
*Note: I always make extras, and save them until the next morning, when I heat them in a dry frying pan. Remove from pan and keep warm on a plate. Fry an egg to your liking and slide on top.

Or, combine your potatoes with this coupon for $1.50 off Oscar Meyer bacon (available here) and do a potato skin-style red potato
4-6 red skin potatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
4 T butter, melted
1 T olive oil
1 cup cheddar cheese
8 slices bacon, cooked
chopped chives
sour cream
Preheat oven to 450 F. Mix together butter and olive oil. Toss potatoes in butter mixture.
Bake potatoes, turning once, until cooked through, about 30 to 40 minutes. Top with cheese and bacon. Return to oven until cheese melts, about 5 minutes. Top with chopped chives and serve with sour cream.

FREE stuff -- gotta love Vocal Point

If you aren't already a member of Vocal Point, a marketing division of Proctor & Gamble, you should be. In mid-February they offered a free full-size bottle of Panteen shampoo (mine arrived in the mail -- along with three $2 off coupons -- yesterday). Today it's a free to-go pack of Puff's Plus, available here.

Typically these freebies go fast, so you'll have to act fast.

If you aren't already a member, go here to sign up.

Ritz ups the ante -- to FREE -- for Facebook fans

Late last week I told you about the $1 off coupon for Ritz new munchables that I found hidden on Ritz Crackers fan page on Facebook.

Today I discovered they have upped the ante. Now instead of a coupon if you click on the "Open for Fun" on their page here you'll be directed to a form to fill out for a free sample to be mailed to your home.

Yea Facebook!

This week's FREE music!

I've said before how much I love downloading free songs. It's a great way to check out some new music and artists before paying for an entire album.

Noisetrade is a great way to try out new songs from new artists, who upload their own singles for free downloads. To get the music for free, Noisetrade asks you to pass the word along to five friends. Or you have the option of paying "any amount" to get MP3s.

Go here to see what's available and begin adding new music directly from the performers.

Thanks to fan Daniel C. for letting me know about this one!

FREE veggies -- some assembly required.

The folks at Dinner Garden want to help you plant a garden. The non-profit company has partnered with organizations across the country to distribute free seeds. Find locations here. Not located near any of the partners? Scroll to the end of the list and fill out the form to have you seeds mailed to you free of charge.

The 501(c)(3) organization does ask for a donation, but it is not required. And you can donate cash, or if you have seeds that you didn't use last year, you can send those along to be passed on to others.

No space is too small for a garden. This year the nine of us are living in a condo, without much gardening space. But I refuse to give up on growing a few things of my own. So it looks like this year it'll be in big pots on my deck and patio.

Find out more about The Dinner Garden here.

Another FREE photo book and $10 photo credit

Sorry I'm late on this one, but I was out of town for the weekend.

Sunday's Target ad had a deal for a free photo book from Kodak Gallery.

Go here to create your book 5x5.75 Pocket Photo Book (a $9.99 value). You will have to pay shipping. Enter the code tgtfreebook at checkout. Offer expires March 21.

The ad also included a deal from Shutterfly. Create a new account and get $10 to use toward any Shutterfly product, including photo books, calendars and posters. Go here to get started.

Yea Facebook!!

I'm starting to feel like Facebook is more than a social networking sight -- it's a big game of hide and seek.

It seems there are coupons and freebies out there, seek and ye shall find.

I just discovered this $1 off Ritz Munchables on the Ritz fan page. Go here, become a fan and then click on the "Open for Fun" tab to find the link to the coupon.

Have you found coupons or freebies on Facebook?? If you have, please share!! You can either post them on the Cheap Cheap facebook page here, or email me at cheapcheap66@gmail.com.
